A Palace of Beauty
Within just a few years, Threadgill’s was already part of Marlin’s downtown identity. Period accounts described Arthur’s jewelry displays and a store devoted to fine goods and craftsmanship.

1889
Arthur Threadgill Sr. came to Texas in 1887 and learned the jewelry trade while working for his uncle in Navasota. Two years later, he borrowed $500, came to Marlin, and opened his own jewelry store at the corner of Live Oak and Commerce Streets.
From the beginning, Arthur built his reputation on something more valuable than anything in his showcases: trust. Falls County history remembers him for his uncompromising honesty and for representing merchandise exactly as it was.
A reputation built on honesty, craftsmanship and trust.
”1891
Within just a few years, Threadgill’s was already part of Marlin’s downtown identity. Period accounts described Arthur’s jewelry displays and a store devoted to fine goods and craftsmanship.
1901
Arthur moved the business to Live Oak Street, establishing the location that would become synonymous with the Threadgill’s name.
1925
A Marlin High School yearbook advertisement promoted graduation jewelry from Arthur Threadgill, Jeweler with a wonderfully fitting message: “Gifts that Last.”
2nd Generation
Arthur Jr. carried on the business established by his father. Falls County’s family history records him as the owner and operator of Threadgill’s Jewelry in 1986.
1989
Threadgill’s reached an extraordinary milestone: 100 years since Arthur Sr. first opened his doors in Marlin.
THE ROSE ERA
After the original Threadgill operation became inactive around the beginning of the 1990s, Drs. Glenn and Melanie Rose acquired Threadgill’s from the Threadgill family and reopened the historic Marlin business.
Rather than erase what came before, the Rose family preserved the Threadgill’s name, its character and the remarkable old-store atmosphere that makes walking through the doors feel different from walking into an ordinary jewelry store.
Family history places the purchase and reopening in the early 1990s. We’re continuing to research the original deed and business records to document the exact date.
TODAY
Today, Threadgill’s remains at 207 Live Oak Street, surrounded by the history of downtown Marlin. The shop blends fine and estate jewelry with antiques, gifts and unusual finds, while continuing the personal service that has defined the name for generations.
Every piece has a story. So does the store.
